Gua Sha
Body Gua Sha has a different technique as well as different goals and results than facial Gua Sha. This is not a painful treatment.
What is Body Gua Sha?
Gua Sha as part of a facial routine is popular, and trending right now, and has excellent benefits, however it is important to note Body Gua Sha has a different technique as well as different goals and results.
An ancient technique used for moving stagnation and relieving pain in areas such as the neck, shoulders, upper and lower back, hips, arms, and legs.
Releasing Stagnation
Gua Sha is additionally helpful for toxin release, moving stagnant qi, moving stagnant blood, and addressing tension and adhesions or "knots" in the muscle tissue by releasing the "resistance" and "holding" of muscles.
The technique produces what is called "Sha" or "petichiae" (splotchy red marks), which can last a few days, to a few weeks.
The Technique
For Body Gua Sha I use a porcelain spoon. For facial Gua Sha I use one of my Gua Sha stones — bian stone, white jade, or nephrite jade. Body Gua Sha uses a simple technique for 30-60 seconds. This technique is not used over the entire body during one session. It is specific to the area of concern.
